Hey! My name is Chloe and I am a Dartmouth '27 from Minnesota. I'm studying engineering and I was a material science exchange student at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. On Dartmouth's campus, I'm involved in the Dartmouth Outing Club, First Year Trips, Sigma Delta sorority, and engineering physics research. On weekends, you can find me outside hiking Mt Moosilauke, canoeing on the Connecticut River, or working at the local Norwich Farmer's Market :) As an exchange student at Chula, I was involved in the Engineering Expats club and you could find me at Sabai Run Club. I also attended a hands-on externship at a Thai chip fabrication company, which got me broadly interested in semiconductor engineering. Outside of school, I loved solo traveling to different parts of Thailand and countries in South East Asia and trying so much amazing food! I wanted to be an exchange student to experience a less-structured program and a different culture's education system. I'm most proud of being outgoing and adaptable in order to meet new people and explore a new place. I'm excited to be a Guarini Exchange Mentor (GEM) to meet more exchange students and help introduce them to new spaces at Dartmouth. Please feel free to reach out with any questions! Hello! My name is Lijia. I am a '27 majoring in Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering). I was originally born in Guangzhou, China, and moved to Maine when I was young. I spent my fall 2025 semester on exchange at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and it's an experience I'm so grateful I did. I was drawn to Hong Kong because of its blend of Eastern and Western culture. It's a city I had always been curious about and wanted to live in. What I didn't fully anticipate was how the experience would challenge and surprise me. CUHK's campus is tucked away in Shatin, quieter and more suburban than I expected, and navigating that alongside a new academic system, new friendships, and new classes was a lot to balance all at once. Still, I made memories I will forever appreciate. Through an engineering course, I got to work with CUHK's Robocon robotics team, and surprisingly it became one of my favorite parts of the semester. At Dartmouth, I work at the Machine Shop, participate in the fencing club, and love spending time at the Organic Farm. I speak Mandarin and Cantonese, and I'm happy to talk about being a woman in STEM, navigating study away with a different heritage, or simply figuring out how to make the most of being somewhere completely new. Looking back, the biggest thing I wish someone had told me is that it's okay to not do everything perfectly. Your experience doesn't have to look like anyone else's to be meaningful, and learning to balance exploration with rest is its own kind of skill.
