Statement from the Staff at the Guarini Institute
01/13/2020
At the Guarini Institute for International Education, we value diversity and strive to ensure that study away is accessible and enriching for all students, staff, and faculty.
We believe that the ability to respectfully navigate different cultures should be a primary outcome of study away.
We recognize that we live in a world where structural barriers and systemic inequities exist; where bias and discrimination are common; and where minoritized, oppressed, underrepresented, and excluded populations are disproportionately negatively impacted by such injustices. Beyond this recognition, we are unwavering in our resolve to work actively and holistically to remove barriers and provide support.
We are committed to championing and developing learning environments that are anti-racist, inclusive, equitable, and foster a sense of belonging. These commitments include considerations of the multicultural and intercultural contexts in which our programs occur. We recognize that working toward equity in these contexts is complex and complicated; we are committed to taking on that challenge with humility, respect, and openness.
We are actively examining the impact of our work through a critical lens to better educate ourselves, and we are committed to serving as an effective leader for positive and substantive change.
