John Tansey serves as Executive Director of the Frank J. Guarini Institute for International Education, where his career reflects a strong focus on leadership, international education, administration, and cross-cultural learning. For more than 20 years, John has provided strategic direction and oversight for Dartmouth College's distinctive academic off-campus programs, working closely with faculty to design and manage exceptional global learning experiences that he believes are transformative for students.
Earlier in his career, John worked in research administration at Dartmouth and spent seven years overseas with the Peace Corps, serving as a volunteer in the Philippines and later as staff in Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, and the Republic of Georgia. John often describes his Peace Corps experience as a formative "graduate program in life," shaping his commitment to safe, high-quality programs and meaningful cross-cultural exchange—principles that continue to guide his leadership at the Guarini Institute.
Outside of work, John enjoys being actively engaged in his community, spending time with his family, fishing, walking, reading, traveling with his wife, and cutting and stacking firewood. A lifelong Boston sports fan, he follows baseball, basketball, and football.
